Stripe App for subscription businesses
Failed payment recovery for Stripe
When a subscription payment fails, Lapsefix emails the customer in their own language with a link to pay on Stripe's hosted invoice page. It is built for European SaaS companies, where many failed payments need a 3D Secure confirmation or a new SEPA mandate.
The pilot runs in Stripe test mode. No real customers are emailed.
How it works
Lapsefix handles the emails. Stripe keeps handling payments and retries.
- 01
Install the Stripe App
Install Lapsefix from your Stripe Dashboard. It requests read access to invoices, charges, payment intents, subscriptions, customers and events. It cannot move money or change your Stripe settings.
- 02
A renewal fails
Lapsefix reads the decline reason from Stripe. A payment that needs 3D Secure, an expired card and a returned SEPA debit each get their own message.
- 03
The customer is emailed
The first email is sent when the failure is reported. For temporary declines it waits a day, so Stripe's own retry can go first. Up to two reminders follow over the next days.
- 04
Emails stop when the invoice is paid
Before each email Lapsefix checks the invoice again. If it has been paid or voided, or the subscription was cancelled, nothing more is sent.
What your customer receives
A short email with the amount, the invoice number and one button. The button opens Stripe's hosted invoice page, where the customer confirms the payment with their bank or enters a new card.
The wording depends on why the payment failed. The Greek copy has been reviewed by a native speaker. The other languages will be reviewed before launch.

How results are measured
Some failed payments are recovered without any email, for example when Stripe retries a card and the charge goes through. Counting those would overstate what Lapsefix does.
So Lapsefix leaves a random 20% of failed payments without emails. This is the holdout group. The difference in recovery rate between the two groups is the effect of the emails. The dashboard reports that difference with a 95% confidence interval, and shows it as not yet significant until there is enough data.
| Group | Failed | Recovered | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| With emails (80 payments) | €4,000 | €2,440 | 61% |
| Holdout, no emails (20 payments) | €1,000 | €380 | 38% |
| Recovered because of the emails: (61% − 38%) × €4,000 | €920 | ||

Lapsefix is in a pilot and runs only in Stripe test mode for now. Pricing will be published before the paid launch.
Free revenue leak audit
Connect a read-only Stripe key and see your failed payments from the last 90 days, grouped by cause, with what Stripe already recovered. It takes about a minute and needs no account.

Does Lapsefix see card details?
No. Customers enter card details only on Stripe-hosted pages. Lapsefix reads invoice data and the customer's billing name, email, country and language.
Does it retry payments?
No. Retries stay with Stripe. Lapsefix only sends emails, with a link to Stripe's hosted invoice page.
Can I keep Stripe's own failed payment emails?
Yes. The holdout group then measures what Lapsefix adds on top of your current setup.
Which languages are supported?
Greek, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. The language is taken from the customer's preferred language in Stripe, then the billing country. English is the fallback.
What happens if I uninstall the app?
All scheduled emails are cancelled immediately, and the names and email addresses of your customers are deleted.
Is there a data processing agreement?
A data processing agreement and a privacy policy will be available before the paid launch. During the pilot Lapsefix runs only in Stripe test mode.
